PESHAWAR: Various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, however, Pakistanis will officially be celebrating Eid day tomorrow.
Earlier it was expected that the country will be celebrating Eid altogether as a nation, especially after the first fast was observed on the same day all across Pakistan.
On Thursday night, the Ruet-e-Hilal committee convened to sight Shawal’s moon, which was not sighted. However, as the committee announced that the moon was not sighted, the KP committee announced that the moon had been sighted.
Thus various parts of the KP province are celebrating their eid, while the rest of the nation will be celebrating it on Saturday June 16.
The provincial localities offered congregational Eid prayers on a larger scale in Peshawar’s Mahabat Mosque.
The tribal areas along with Bannu, Nowshera and Charsadda are celebrating the festivities of Eid.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates on Thursday announced that the Shawal moon had been sighted and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday.
The Saudi government announced a 10 days holiday starting today.
