Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif Friday termed the historic Supreme Court (SC) verdict disqualifying him for lifetime ‘vindictive’ and ‘very much expected’.
“I had expected such a ruling from the courts,” he told an informal gathering of PML-N members at his Jati Umra residence. “I have no qualms in saying that my existence is the sole target,” he added.
“Masses cannot be deprived of their leadership through courts … obstacles were there in the past as well but PML-N successfully overcame those and will keep struggling with the same spirit,” he added.
Nawaz asked party members to observe patience and wait for the party’s call as such decisions cannot waiver PML-N’s mission of serving the people.
Earlier, the Supreme Court declared Nawaz Sharif and Jehangir Tareen disqualified for life under Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution.
A five-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, had earlier reserved the verdict while hearing several petitions to determine the time period a lawmaker would remain disqualified for after being de-seated in violation of Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution.
