LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Sunday announced to contest the upcoming Senate elections together.
Speaking to media after a meeting in Lahore, PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi and PML-Q’s Pervaiz Elahi announced to work together for the elections and form a committee to ensure cooperation for the purpose. “It has been decided that we will contest the Senate elections together,” former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi announced.
A delegation headed by PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi called PML-Q President and former prime minister Ch Shujat Hussain and former deputy prime minister Ch Parvaiz Elahi at their residence. An eight-member committee, four from each side, was constituted to work out strategy to ensure election of PML-Q’s Senator Kamil Ali Agha and PTI’s Ch Sarwar in the upcoming Senate election from Punjab.
Talking to media, Elahi hoped that Senator Kamil Agha and Ch Sarwar will succeed in the Senate election. Expressing gratitude to the PTI leaders, he said that both parties will jointly contest the Senate election for which a joint strategy will be evolved.
To a question, he said that Jamaat-i-Islami was also supporting their candidates. To another question, he said that both judiciary and army were respectable institutions and their prestige should be taken care of.
PTI’s Qureshi said that PML-Q’s government in Punjab had undertaken immense works for the welfare and well-being of people without any discrimination. He said the PML-Q government never resorted to political victimisation and behaved well even with its political opponents.
The PTI leader expressed the hope that both parties through joint political strategy would secure better results in Punjab.
PML-Q’s candidate from Punjab for Senate Senator Kamil Ali Agha submitted his nomination papers with the Election Commission of Pakistan. PML-Q MPAs Aamir Sultan Cheema, Ahmad Shah Khagga, Vickas Hassan Mokal and Khadija Farooqi accompanied him.
Meanwhile PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain contacted PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari over telephone to discuss the upcoming Senate elections and other political matters.
